Balboa Spirit Club Board Officer Responsibilities
(Co-)President(s): Works with the school administration to ensure BSC fulfills its mission of supporting Balboa Magnet. Manages the delegation of all assignments and oversees monthly meetings. Works on developing operational budget with treasurer. Plans schedule of events with school. Strategizes fundraising with board and chairpersons. Troubleshoot issues that may arise and assist as needed. Some planning over the summer and ongoing check-in’s with chairpersons throughout the year. Actively present at community events. Very helpful to have knowledge of Balboa events.
Chief Financial Officer: oversees the financial affairs of the Balboa Spirit Club. This includes working closely with the administration and the BSC Board in financial decisions. Responsible for renewing BSC insurance policies and interacting with insurance broker on occasional basis. Responsible for budgets, check writing, monthly financial statements, reconciling bank accounts, processing of COMPASS fund pledges made by credit card, annual reporting of contractor wages, preparation of tax schedules, tracking and verification of employer matching donations to COMPASS fund, reporting budget variances, and providing summary of individual events/programs to program chairs. Also responsible for submitting LAUSD permit applications for BSC events taking place after school hours, such as Fall Picnic, Math Night and Festival of the Arts. The time commitment is greatest from August through October.
VP Communications: oversees Room Parents, BSC Website, Facebook, School Newsletter (Balboa Beat), Mail Chimp, Directory, meeting signs, Yearbook, and Job Fair
VP Community Outreach: oversees programs like Earthquake Kits, Holiday Outreach, Stop, Drop & Roll, Parent Education, TAP, Green Team, STAR after school program as well as community events that may include Math Night, Fall Picnic, and Movie Night.
VP Hospitality: hospitality at Balboa Spirit Club meetings in providing refreshments. Oversee food services for all events and assist chairpersons at New Student Orientation, Teacher Welcome Lunch, Holiday Potluck, Teacher Appreciation Lunch, Back to School Night and Open House.
VP Ways & Means: a fundraising position, overseeing event chairpersons and programs that may include jog-a-thon, spell-a-thon, Book Fair, Festival of the Arts, Silent Auction, Spirit Store, After School Enrichment, Banner Program, etc
