The duties change from classroom to classroom, and some teachers will want more help than others. Think of this as an outline of what may be in store:
- Communicate with parents. As a Room Parent, communication is the key component to your job; therefore, you should try to correspond with your classroom parents as much as possible through email.
- Talk to the teacher. Send your teacher an email at the beginning of the year. Then, try to check in with her/him weekly to see if they need anything, and keep the lines of communication open.
- Build community. Encourage a sense of community with your class. For example, host a parent's night or a playdate.
- Organize gifts for the teacher throughout the year, including holidays, the end of the school year, the teacher's birthday, and Teacher Appreciation Week.
- Support your teacher. As room parents, we're here to help! Your teacher will guide you on how much of a role she or he wants you to play.
